sports madness

What would I ever do without cable tv, and espn gamecast, and a superfast computer at work....It's been nonstop world cup madness. Now that the US is out, I'm apparently supposed to cheer for the Azzurri (Italy) since that's what my English-Italian coworker is for. Oh, the craziness of it all. At least this is better than when the world cup was in Japan-Korea, and I had to get up at 2 in the morning to watch matches!

This past Sunday, lunch date with a new friend that I had met at a dance club the weekend before, at a pseudo tex-mex sports bar to watch Brazil-Australia. That was fun --I figured, a date there was safe because if the conversation lagged, there's always the game. (I spent the rest of the afternoon in more rarefied air looking at exhibits at the Met. It was the coolest place I could think of on a day where the heat was relentless. I treated myself to a lovely apple strudel afterwards at the Neue Gallery cafe. Absolutely heavenly

Monday night, saw a Mets-Reds game with Stulic -- an awesome pitching duel, El Duque was good, but Arroyo for the Reds was even better. He really stymied the heart of the Mets lineup. Unbelievable, and amazing to watch. As much as I wanted the Mets to win, it was such a good game to witness.

Tuesday night, tried pilates for the first time. It wasn't too hard -- a mix of stretching yoga, and some ballet moves. These were floor exercises.

Wednesday night, a nice bonus in that a coworker that I volunteer with had an extra bball ticket, so I went to my first ever WNBA, women's professional basketball game ever. Liberty vs. Mystics, and it was a lot of fun. Liberty won, and they snapped a losing streak so that was fun.

And today, despite my wearing blue top, red skirt with white stitching, being patriotic just wasn't enough. The US still lost to Ghana. Sigh.

Onward march. I wish I had HDTV. Guess I will have to visit the parents so that I can watch world cup on their tv :)
