Hope everyone had a good 4th of July! It was very odd having it occur in the middle of the week, especially as I had to come to work the rest of the week.
I spent parts of it watching Wimbledon (from the land that we rebelled against many years ago), baseball (yankees truly couldn't get it done...again), while doing housework. It was both relaxing and tiring at the same time.
But the highlight was that evening, heading over to see a new friend (made from the hiking group) who lives as far east as you can go on 41st St in the Tudor City apartments. She threw a small party, and her view from the 14th floor overlooked the East River, and the Macy's sponsored barge that was shooting up all the fireworks. I haven't been this close to the action since, well, possibly when I was a teenager and we went to the Orioles game in the old Memorial Stadium and the fireworks were set off on the field. It was loud, and bright, and beautiful.
Hey, did anyone else pay attention to the great Coney Island Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest? Joey Chesnut beat Kobayashi by two dogs! I watched for a few seconds but was way too grossed out.
