So last night, one of my college classmates invited me to come to a happy hour at 230 5th, which is this incredibly huge, two story rooftop bar down near the Flatiron District. It's in a fancy office building, you wouldn't know there was a bar -- there's no sign out front, but it appears to be open from 4-4 every day.
It was a beautiful space-- great views on the roof of the Chrysler, and Empire State Building.
Worth going back to just for the view -- and there's a lot of nice wooden seating areas arranged in ways that invite being cosy and chatty. There were torches and lots of palm trees. If it weren't for the chill last night -- it would've been perfect. They actually havethese huge red hooded robes (head to toe) that you can wear if you getcold -- I either looked like Little Red Riding Hood or a member of a cult!
The food served at this place appears to be Malaysian street snacks -- didn't get to try any. Like a lot of fancy bars, this one charges a lot for their drinks. I had a $9 beer in a skinny glass. My coworker says she went the night before and happened upon a Dos Equis (spelling?) party and they were handing out free beers. Too bad I couldn't have lucked out with that.
Anyway, all this makes me want to just go and be outdoors even more. I'm on a quest to find more beautiful spots in the city to go after hours!
