hallmark not needed

Quite frankly, I don't need a card company, or advertising to tell me when to appreciate my mother. I already do! So instead of schlepping myself down to my parents' home to have an overpriced brunch yesterday, I stayed local. And my parents went off and had a great weekend at the beach.

I much prefer doing things on no particular schedule and spending time with my parents at otther times. The previous Friday, I called her up and told her that I figured out a way to get baseball tickets to a great series that she really wanted to see. So my mom hopped on a bus last Monday to see me we had a great afternoon shopping, and then enjoying ourselves at a Yankees-Mariners baseball game. Even though her beloved team didn't win (and there was a controversial call by the ump -- and he admitted he made the wrong call), we had a great time. The fare of the day? Footlong hot dogs and way too much soda, followed by a late night snack of EZ-Mac (the organic version) and edamame. And I had a great time just spending that afternoon and evening with her -- and it didn't have to be on an official day. It was just because it was fun.
