Or as I like to call it, Kung Hei Fat Pig! Happy year of the pig, everyone! We went to Chinatown in Washington DC today and saw the lion dance, the dragon dance, and these kids dressed up as the animals of the zodiac, and of course, an inner city marching band playing "super freak". The Taiwan contingent was out in full force -- with all the ROC flags waving. Not a PRC official in sight.
Then we met up with the Langley kids and mom, and had non-traditional Spanish tapas. And a good thing too because all the Chinese restaurants were so packed. But that's ok, because last night, I had some amazing Chinese food. Neighborsmama showed that she still had her cooking chops and made an amazing sticky rice dessert called eight treasures rice, although, she only put in 3 treasures -- raisins, apricots and sweet bean paste. She also made this delicious pork meatballs stuffed with fresh water chesnuts, ginger and rolled in sticky rice.
And I got to play with the Bookbinder kids on PS2, and managed to impress them slightly with my moves on the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon game. Apparently, I'm the only one who thought to look up the instructions on what keys would have which great moves :)

Gong Xi Fa Cai, Ruth. No such Chinese New Year's festivities here in the big bad Army, but my brother and my parents celebrated with my future sister-in-law, who's parents are from HK.
Hope you had fun. Year of the Pig! Hoorah!
I think I will take this opportunity to eat more pork. Filipinos and Chinese people - unite!
