There's something really special about meeting people who graduated from your school. I don't know, maybe they just seem smarter, more interesting than the people you normally meet. Knowing that you share a connection -- whether it be having the same professor, or hanging out in the same dorm -- somehow makes it more special.
At least, that's how I felt on Saturday when I braved the extreme cold and wind to make it down to the lower east side to go to the Tenement Museum and meet up with about 20+ other school alums. The exhibit was ok, but it was far more interesting when we had a group discussion and shared our stories of immigrants, our reactions, which were just fascinating. That, and enjoying $2.75 hot dogs and knishes at Katz's Deli (yes, the one that was in Harry Met Sally), made for a fun afternoon. We each took turns telling out stories of when we graduated from Brown, our majors, our favorite memories, and the worst dorm room we ever lived in! But the best part was walking into the museum and seeing a classmate that I hadn't seen in over 10 years. Whew, I can't tell you how relieved I was to have remembered her name! Reconnecting with her was a highlight. And definitely made the day special.
