So Monday night, I went to a vendor event that was held at the Soho Grand. It was for the launch of a new web metrics product on search engines, which was, well, ok but not quite applicable to my job. But the highlight was the after-event cocktail party which served 3 types of lovely martinis -- I had the lychee martini -- and some of the best appetizers I've ever had at an event. Whoever heard of serving pieces of Chilean seabass? It was excellent, and the chef wasn't afraid of hot sauce so the chilled shrimp went very well with this amazingly hot yellow pepper sauce.
Then, Tuesday night, I went with a work buddy, his wife and a friend who I'll just call Panda guy because he is a zoologist. We went to Aimee Mann's Christmas Show. Remember Aimee Mann with Til Tuesday, back in the 1990s? She also did a song called Save Me for the Magnolia soundtrack. Anyway, I thought maybe it was an ironic title, but she really did sing Christmas songs. I won't recap it here -- just read the NY Times review.
Wednesday was all about work, and a quick trip to Tiffany's afterwork to help a coworker find a cool necklace for her girlfriend. I've forgotten how beautiful some of the jewelry is!
Thursday lunch -- Toastmasters holiday party. I ended up hosting it -- there were 10 of us and we each got up and had to draw a card and do a toast for a specific audience. I was supposed to toast merrygoers at Times Square and talk about 2006/2007. I won a poinsetta plant for my efforts :)
