favorite costumes

Happy Halloween everyone! Hope it's frightfully good for you!

I was a gypsy this weekend for a costume party - which is quite easy to do, when you own about 30 scarves. Thankfully, the bohemian hippy flowing skirt was popular this year, so I wore that, and then weighed myself down with 5 necklaces, 15 bracelets, costume earrings and head scarves. And to top it off, I found an old vest from Xi'an that has embroidered frogs, scorpions, snakes and other bugs -- as talismans against evil. I thought I looked like a gypsy, but some people thought I was hippie. Go figure.

My favorite costume of the night was seeing this woman wearing a box that looked like a dresser drawer, and a lampshade on her head. Couldn't figure it out until someone said to her "Excuse me, are you a one night stand?" "Yes!," she replied, and she looked extremely pleased that someone understood her visual pun.

Here's a list of some of my favorite costumes over the years, that either I or neighborsman wore. I will have to dig up photos.

- home-made skeleton costume for neighborsman, when he was 4 or 5 years old. I proud to say that I drew all the bones by hand and taped onto black paper or black clothing. Cheers for a good science class.
- missing Florida ballot -- last year's costume -- I made a sandwich board, and printed out a copy of the ballot, and wrote, in big letters "Missing. Have you seen me? Call 1-800-Florida"
- witch costume, boil, toil and trouble from 8th grade. With the wig, and the green makeup, I didn't recognize myself.
- litter bug -- with a necklace of garbage (that didn't smell) and pipe cleaners for antennas, I think I was a hit.
- dr. evil and austin powers-- neighborsman and my ex were hilarious in these outfits, and played it full hilt, evil accents included.
