it's not a vacation until someone gets sick

Or in this case, both my brother and me. Day 1 of our vacation, 2 hours into our trip to VA Beach, I managed to trip on some rough ground and sprain my foot. Xrays didn't reveal anything and I iced the heck out of it. Needless to say, a golf game was not in my future.

Despite that, we had a blast. Virginia Beach is gorgeous, and we had a wonderful time hanging out on the beach, watching the sun go down, the dogs chasing the waves, the sandpiper birds working hard as they skittered in and out of the waves looking for their next meal.

On Sunday, we went to Stumpy Lake Golf Course, and old fashioned golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. NeighborsMama and I tagged along on a second cart. I was really bummed not to be able to play, but Neighborsman (my brother) made some great shots. Very impressive, since he's only golfed about 4 or 5 times in his life. NeighborsBaba had some excellent drives, although his chips fell a bit short sometimes. What a beautiful course -- I never realized trees could grow in water. I'll develop my photos and post soon.

We found an excellent old-fashioned bbq place that afternoon -- and had some downhome bbq for a late lunch, followed by a relaxing afternoon at the beach. I'm so ready to rent a place down here next summer. What a great location. Dinner on the boardwalk, at Jewish Mothers -- and I had some matzoh ball soup and non-kosher grilled cheese/salami sandwich.

I'd like say that was the perfect end to our family weekend away, but hey, it's not a vacation unless someone gets sick. Neighborsman didn't do too well - -too much rich food but he was very sick last night and today as we drove back north. Sigh. Feel better, little brother!

Despite that, it was a fun trip.
